Ode to Joe

A poem by Charlie d'Estries

Hey Joe, I heard the news
That you left the party early,
So I thought I’d drop a note
To let you know I’m glad you came.

It was great though don’t you think,
All the laughter and the fun,
All those times we worked so hard
And tipped a beer with everyone.

I think of you quite often
Wondering why you left so soon,
But I guess it’s just like you
To follow the sound of a different tune!

Then I got to thinking Joe,
About the paths our lives have crossed
How you always made me smile,
How your words were always kind.

But my regret in your departure
Is I’ll always think and ponder
Did you ever meet your dreams?
Were you happy, Joe, I wonder?

So not to worry Joe, my friend
You will never be forgotten
And I pray you know how much
You were so loved by all you touched.

So the party’s ‘bout to end
And the guests are leaving now,
May I raise a toast to you
‘Here’s to Joe, a life well done!’

So I heard you left the party,
Oh I hope you get this note!
And always know that in my heart,
You will never be alone

Much love to Joe Allen, and farewell.
